The video will be ready next week!
Yesterday I interviewed Paul Underhill from the Terra Firma farm in Winters. They sell some of their products to the Davis Joint Unified Schools District. The farm is bigger than the Pacific Star Garden. The video will be ready next week!

I always meet many interesting people at the market.
This Saturday I helped Trudy from the Upper Crust Baking Company. She makes different breads on the French way. They are really good! It is an opportunity for me to recover the flavour from my country of origin. I also met I always meet many interesting people at the market. This Saturday I helped Trudy from the Upper Crust Baking Company. She makes different breads on the French way. They are really good! It is an opportunity for me to recover the flavour from my country of origin. I also met Delaney Estian who was at the head of the educational system of the Yolo County. She promoted a garden in every school. There are always many different things to do and to learn at the farm: feed the animals, harvest pepper, make flowers bouquets...
Tadaaaam! I am proud to present you the first video I made with the fabulous Robert Ramming from the Pacific Star Garden. This Saturday, I volunteered with the Slow Food Yolo organization at the Capay Tomato Festival. It is organized by the Farm Fresh to You.
During the afternoon, people can taste many different tomatoes, and have to vote for their favorite heirloom tomato, and their favorite cherry tomato. It was a fun event, with music and food. The Slow Food volunteers like me cut pieces of tomato and talk to the people. The market is for me a chance to discover new varieties of fruits and vegetables we are not used to eat in France.
For example I discovered many différents kinds of tomatoes, but also of cucumbers, like the lemon cucumber. On Tuesday I shot my first video at the Pacific Star Garden.
I interviewed Robert Ramming, the owner. He is really interesting. His farm is very different from the Full Belly Farm. It is a small farm. He grows some vegetables and breeds poultry. He is organic from the beginning and wants to stay small, without many people working on the farm. That is why it is important for him to sell some of his products to the Davis Joint Unified School District. Video available soon ! Today I worked for the first time at the Full Belly Farm. I only spent a few minutes at the kids camp (making butter with the children), because it is difficult for me to communicate in English with the kids. There are many things to do on the farm !
I am not used to such big organic farms (800 acres). We don't have this kind of farm in France. Our organic farms are much smaller. That is why it is very interesting for me to discover all available opportunities on Full Belly Farm. They breed many different animals (cow, sheep, goat, chicken layers, broilers, pig). They grow many fruits, vegetables and flowers. Exs : watermelon, melon, peach, tomato, pepper, plums, berries. I fed the animals, harvested flowers and made sunflowers bouquets. |
AuthorI am Amandine, a French student of 21 years old. I am studying agriculture and food processing in a university in France, and I have to perform a 2 month internship abroad this summer. I have decided to go to Davis (California) to do this internship, at the Slow Food Yolo organization. Here I will try to tell my adventure. ArchivesCategories
